The available role involves performing echocardiograms to assess various aspects of the heart, thereby providing invaluable data to physicians for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The position also includes serving as a mentor and resource to the staff and assisting management with supervisory tasks.

Job Description

As a Cardiac Sonographer at the client's Heart Center, you'll collaborate with pediatric critical care physicians and hospitalists to ensure 24-hour, in-house and on-call coverage. This collaboration aims to provide the best possible care to patients requiring intensive care.

The client's Heart Institute utilizes cutting-edge techniques and services, striving to provide patients (including those with the most complex cardiac problems) the best chance at leading a normal life. They offer innovative treatment methods and specialized services, complete with ongoing cardiac training and mentorship for the sonographer team.

The client's hospital is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and is recognized as one of the busiest trauma centers nationwide, specialized and equipped to manage even the most severe cases.

  • The hospital boasts a team of four Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeons, supported by a specialized pediatric team skilled in advanced life support techniques.
  • The facility has received certification for heart transplants from a recognized transplant organization.
  • The facility is a designated Magnet facility, indicating excellence in nursing services.
  • The facility provides imaging for some of the most complex hearts, including those fresh from open heart surgery, using state-of-the-art equipment from major manufacturers.
  • The role includes scanning not only in-house patients (such as those in intensive care units) but also in the cardiovascular operating rooms, pediatric catheterization labs, and you will also be traveling to various outpatient clinics in the city. Here, you will work closely with the cardiologists in those spaces.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A graduate from an accredited institution of Cardiac Sonography Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Sonography Technology is preferred.


License/Certification:

  • Certification in Basic or Advanced Life Support is required.
  • Candidates should have one of the following:
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by a recognized cardiovascular credentialing organization.
  • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by a recognized cardiovascular credentialing organization.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by a recognized registry for diagnostic medical sonographers.


Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Principal Accountabilities

  • Conducts echocardiogram tests on patients: Prepares patients for the test, explains the procedure, positions patients for the test, chooses appropriate imaging techniques, and ensures the technical quality of the images.
  • Enters and monitors patient data.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and escalates issues appropriately.
  • Performs quality assurance on the equipment. May assist with initial and renewal application for industry-specific accreditations.
  • Identifies and reports any accidents, complaints, or equipment malfunction to the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Participates in the performance improvement activities established by the department.
  • Takes emergency call within the department.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all the client's policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports goals that contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
